I use the choke every time to start and it also smokes at first, settling down almost immediately after, like you said, 10-15 sec of sputtering and eliminating the choke. All of this is normal and I too have not noticed any change in oil levels.

One is from the solenoid to the switch and one from the battery to the headlight. If it is the one for the starter follow the red wire from the solenoid. The fuse is an inline fuse and that way you can trace it by the wire. Same for the headlight fuse.I have a 18HP Kohler engine on my Toro mower. The carburetor was flooding out. WHen I went by the dealer on Thursday he said Kohler had upgraded the breather tube (tube between crankcase and carburetor) because there had been some problems with cracking.
