Antler orogeny

The Antler Orogeny (Mississippian-Devonian) involved thrust faults from Alberta down to Nevada. Associated with the faulting was the docking of another island arc sequence. The Antler Orogeny probably marks the initiation of subduction of the Pacific Ocean Plate beneath the North American Plate.

Orogeny is a mountain building process that takes place at a convergent plate margin when plate motion compresses the margin. An orogenic belt or orogen develops as the compressed plate crumples and is uplifted to form one or more mountain ranges. This involves a series of geological processes collectively called orogenesis. Pampean Orogeny (545-500 Ma) 1. Santa Rosita Formation 2. Jun 18, 2012 · The Antler orogeny was not characterized by obduction of the Roberts Mountains allochthon; rocks composing the "allochthon" essentially were deposited in situ. Instead, the orogeny was characterized by appearance of an elongate north-northeast-trending uplift through central Nevada and by two parallel flanking depressions. An orogeny is a major cycle of mountain building that affects an entire region of a continent. The region undergoing orogeny is called the orogen. An orogeny commonly builds several mountain ranges. In the build up of a large mountain range the continental crust is subjected to most of the geologic processes we have looked at so far in this course:The Antler orogeny was not characterized by obduction of the Roberts Mountains allochthon; rocks composing the "allochthon" essentially were deposited in situ.
