WWII P-38's were made in 10,000 gun "blocks". Each block was given a block letter code in addition to the serial number. The first block made in January of the year would have the serial number and markings: ac 43 0001. The block would run up to 9999.There isn't a nitro eagle proof any where on the pistole that I can find. the odd markings appear as sets about a half inch apart on the slide and frame and about a quarter of an inch apart just below the barrel. This was supposed to be a military/police turn back. the mag is marked p-38 9/58 with a serial or control number of 1005-12-120-0892.The P.38 stamp is much deeper and the Walther banner stamps go across the P.38 stamp.
