The LMT barrel mounting system is easily changed without special tool while Colt’s seems to be more secure and lighter(all other considerations equal, and most obvious on they 308 guns). The two screws you see at the bottom of the rail on the Colt M5 only serve to secure the handguard. On LMT they only serve to retain the barrel.15-inches. Intended mostly for rifle-length gas systems, it’s perfectly usable on any standard length gas system. For me I start to dislike handguards shorter than like 12" for shootability, but it doesn't make a huge difference. Also it's nice to have a flashlight closer to the muzzle. Which might mean closer to 14-15" for a 16".
