The engines were made in Mexico, and as best I can remember were new engines not remanufactured. In the early 90's GM had several service bulletins ...1 Answer. I actually helped pull this engine myself out of a 1976 Corvette, but, the owner could not asure me that it was it's original engine. If I remember correctly, the casting number should be located on the rear of the block, on the driver side. Just in front of the tranny mount and below where the head bolts on.
