In 1899 he was elected a Craftsman of the Society of Arts & Crafts Boston and in 1908 promoted to Mastership. Russell Crook was born in San Francisco and later moved to Massachusetts.It indicates it was made by a pottery working in Dedham, Massachusetts. The pottery is best-known for its crackleware designs-dishes with a crackled gray glaze and blue decorations, including border designs of animals, flowers, or other natural motifs. The mark was used from 1895-1932 by the Dedham Pottery (1895-1943).By 1943, between 50-80 patterns had been produced. There were 13 standard patterns, some of which were: Magnolia, Iris, Butterfly, Duck, Polar Bear, and Rabbit. Hugh's son and grandson continued the business until it was closed in 1943.
