The southern viscacha ( Lagidium viscacia) is a species of viscacha, a rodent in the family Chinchillidae found in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Peru. It is a colonial animal living in small groups in rocky mountain areas. It has long ears and hind legs and resembles a rabbit in appearance apart from its long, bushy tail, but is not a lagomorph . Only several birds and aquarium-dwelling species are legal exotic pets in this unique state, with peafowl (a.k.a peacocks and peahens) being considered poultry. The list of mammals legal to import into the islands consists of guinea pigs, chinchillas, rabbits, mice, and rats. No hamsters, snakes, ferrets, or gerbils are allowed.Thus, we calculated the numbers of records in each sampling station of mountain vizcacha (camera traps) and small mammals (live capture traps) standardized to 100 trap days (Hopkins and Kennedy, 2004, Sollmann, 2018). 2.3.
